Learning & development

See your future with us

Ensuring that all our members of staff have access to the right skills and knowledge is crucial to the Trust delivering kind, safe and excellent care.

We are committed to providing learning and development opportunities to all staff. Our Learning and Development Team coordinates a wide range of courses, working together with partners, such as the Judge Business School, Anglia Ruskin University, the Cambridge Regional College and Cambridgeshire County Council. In addition, all our staff members are eligible to register as users of the Medical Library, which is located in the Clinical School building on our main site, and is part of the Cambridge University Library.

Our Chief Executive Gareth Goodier has signed the National Skills Pledge, confirming our commitment to:

  • encouraging and supporting employees to gain the skills and qualifications that will support their future employability and meet Trust needs.
  • encourage and support employees to acquire basic literacy and numeracy.
  • demonstrably raise employees’ skills and competencies to improve Trust performance.

We are keen to support staff both personally and professionally with learning opportunities from the day they join us. In addition to comprehensive induction training and annual refresher updates, we offer a diverse range of learning opportunities.

The NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF)

We support our development planning process with appraisals, using the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF). The KSF is designed to ensure that all members of staff, regardless of their pay band or role, have clear expectations of the skills and knowledge they need to demonstrate in their role and that they have development plans to support them in acquiring these skills and knowledge.

Leadership skills

“Leadership is the driver of everything in our organisation”

Gareth Goodier, Chief Executive

We offer a host of courses to strengthen management skills at all levels. These range from intensive one-day courses through to our 12-month comprehensive development programme, the Leadership Academy. The aim of the Leadership Academy is to develop the potential of our managers and clinicians and to improve their confidence in their work.

Our programmes and courses are backed up by:

  • integrating leadership development skills into the healthcare setting.
  • coaching sessions.
  • working with whole teams.
  • multidisciplinary development and cross-departmental learning.
