The Rosie Hospital

Our reputation as an NHS Foundation Trust
Cambridge University Hospitals (Addenbrooke's and the Rosie) is one of the top hospitals in the UK and a thriving NHS Foundation Trust. We have over 1000 beds, an annual budget in excess of £393 million and around 7000 staff.
We are an NHS Foundation Trust and consistently win national awards for our staff and projects.
We have higher recruitment and retention rates for our staff than many other NHS hospitals. However, we aren't complacent and work hard to make the lives of our staff more productive and enjoyable.
Our way
Working at Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) is about providing great patient care in one of the best hospitals in the NHS; but its also about you - the qualities and skills you bring to your role in the Trust and the support, development and job satisfaction you expect in return. It's about sharing common priorities for improvement and embracing our Trust values – kind, safe and excellent – not only in caring for our patients but also respecting each other as individuals and working together as colleagues.
Our way describes CUH – our purpose and role as a Trust, our vision for development in the future, our priorities for improving patient care, and our values - kind, safe and excellent - which define the way we work and behave towards our patients and each other as colleagues.
For staff at CUH this is Our way of working, Our way of behaving, Our way of striving for excellence in all we do – for our patients, for staff, for our hospitals and for our community.

Our research
Cambridge University Hospitals is one of the very few places in the UK that provides a centre of research excellence together with a complete clinical infrastructure.
The Trust shares its campus with a number of internationally renowned organisations:
Cambridge scientists have long been pushing at the frontiers of knowledge and have made outstanding contributions to medicine-related science. Thirteen scientists based on the hospital campus have been rewarded with the Nobel prize - the highest international accolade for scientists.
Clinical teams work alongside world-class scientists turning research into new drugs and new therapies to improve patient care. Over 1,000 projects and 400 clinical trials are run by the hospitals' staff.
In December 2006, Cambridge University Hospitals in partnership with the University of Cambridge was designated as one of the government's new National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Comprehensive Biomedical Research Centres, and will receive substantial new Research and Development funding from the NIHR.
In February 2007 the new European headquarters for Cancer Research UK based on the campus were opened by the Queen. More than 300 scientists in up to thirty research groups will be based at the Institute which is dedicated to state-of-the-art research into the causes of cancer, and developing new treatments and bringing them to the clinic to benefit cancer patients.

Our facilities
We have modern, purpose-built and well-equipped facilities for you to work, learn and play. These are constantly being upgraded and developed - with new buildings and facilities being planned and built. Our 2020 Vision Plan for the hospital site outlines how we aim to develop into a major biomedical campus.
In the Frank Lee Centre, we have probably the best sports and social facilities in a UK hospital - just for our staff and right on-site.
We also boast the largest number of nursery places of any NHS Trust (over 300)
Our concourse has a comprehensive range of services: shops, restaurants, a bank, travel agent, hairdresser, mortgage broker, solicitor and more.
Our location
Cambridge is one of the most attractive cities in the UK. Although it has roots back to medieval times, it is a major high-tech centre with very low unemployment. The city is just a short train ride to London and the midlands and is very close to Stansted airport.
Cambridgeshire is one of the fastest growing counties in the UK. Being on the southern outskirt of Cambridge, we are a campus site flanked by green fields. Many of our staff cycle to work using the city's extensive network of cycle paths.
The Cambridge region is one of the Government's national growth areas. Around 47,000 new homes will be built in the area in the next 10 years and 50,000 new jobs will also be created in the same period.
Our work
Our clinical departments span almost all possible specialties (apart from heart surgery, some specialist children's and community mental health). We have inpatient, outpatient and close links with our local community services. We have 32 operating theatres, 5 intensive care units and 14 clinics.
The Rosie Hospital, which is an integral part of Cambridge University Hospitals, provides comprehensive services for women including obstetric care. We also have a convenient 'one stop' family planning clinic in the city centre.
Our patients come from the immediate area, from across the UK and worldwide.
The Trust's philosophy is to place the patient and the patient experience at the heart of everything we do. Our approach is to focus on improving our standards; to challenge and explore new ways of working; to harness technology; to invest in staff development and in new facilities; to question how we work in the future and how we can work better and smarter.
Addenbrooke's has built on a culture of involvement and collaboration with staff, patients, members, stakeholders and the local community helping us to deliver a responsive service while at the same time shaping the future strategic development of the Trust. This spirit of collaboration and involvement defines the character of the Trust.
Learning and development
We are keen to support our staff in both their personal and professional development. To do this we have a range of opportunities available to all staff in addition to the statutory training that is required by law.
We value vocational learning as much as academic learning and encourage our staff to share their knowledge with others. We believe that all staff should have equal access to learning and development opportunities and we are committed to annual appraisal and development.
