New starters

The new starters section of the website is provided for all new staff to help you settle into your role.

These pages will also provide you with information that you may find useful in your first few days and weeks with us.  More information can be found at working with us.

More information can also be found on the following pages:

When on site, you will also be able to access the CUH Intranet site Connect.

Your first few days

We are looking forward to welcoming you on your first day and we want your first few days and months with us to go really smoothly. See our working with us pages for more information.

Reading through the information on these pages before you start is a great way of learning more about the Trust and will help you settle into your role more quickly.

Personal Information to bring with you

It is important that we have your most up-to-date personal details in order to make sure we pay you correctly. This is also part of practical identification checks which is a legal requirement and something all employers must do when they employ new staff.

Please provide us with:

  • home address
  • contact numbers
  • national Insurance (NI) number
  • bank account details*
  • form P45 (this is provided by your last employer where relevant)
  • contact details of a person we can contact in case of emergency*
  • contact details of your next of kin*
  • the Principal Statement of Main Terms and Conditions of Employment.  If you haven’t already signed and returned this, please bring it with you on your first day.  The fact that you’ve started employment with us indicates you have accepted all the terms, but we need your signed copy for your personal file

*If any of these details change in the future, let your manager know so your personal records are always up to date.

Staff Identification

All staff and volunteers will be provided with a Staff ID badge to identify you to patients and employees.

This badge will also give you access to the areas of the Trust appropriate to your role. It must be worn at all times as it is an important part of security that safeguards patients and employees. Your manager or supervisor will give you a form to complete and arrange for you to go to the Access Office. There you’ll have your photograph taken so your badge can produced for you.

Reporting in

Your appointment letter will let you know the person you need to meet on your first day.

Do feel free to contact this person directly if you have any queries before you start, for example, if you want to talk about your working/shift pattern in your first few weeks.

Standards of appearance

It won’t come as a surprise that we always need to present ourselves in the best way to our patients and all those who use our services.

With this in mind, there are some general standards we all adhere to, whether you wear a uniform or not.

You need to:

  • be neat, tidy and well-groomed
  • have a professional appearance at all times befitting of a professional health care organisation
  • ensure that clothes and accessories comply with infection control and health & safety guidelines
  • display your Trust ID so you can be readily identified by other staff and patients
  • ensure that your appearance does not give offence to other employees, patients or members of the public

These standards apply to all staff and volunteers whether they wear a uniform or not. If you wear a uniform for your role, your manager will be able to let you know the arrangements for this

For more information regarding the Trusts policy on dress code and uniform, please refer to the CUH internal staff Connect website.
