"It's exciting... no two days are ever the same"

The emergency admissions unit consists of:

  • emergency department
  • clinical decisions unit
  • ambulatory care (EAU 3)
  • medical short stay unit (EAU 5)
  • acute medicine for the elderly (EAU 4)

Over 100,000 emergency patients came through our department last year – so you won’t be bored and you’ll certainly be busy! We’re a dynamic, friendly and fast-moving unit which will offer you lots of development opportunities in our hardworking and motivated nursing team.

The emergency department and clinical decisions unit brings together all emergency admissions through one door. We have rapid access to pathology and radiology services so we can make quick decisions about patient care.

This year we also became the East of England major trauma centre for the regional trauma network providing all specialist services for major trauma patients.

We provide dedicated space to support patients whilst not admitting them. We also have acute short stay facilities to focus on rapid treatment and early discharge.

We’re busy, but we focus on the individual – for us patient experience and patient safety is key, as we work to live our Trust values of being kind, safe, excellent.

When you join our team you’ll have a tailor-made orientation programme so you get to know the ropes quickly. We value the unique experience that every nurse who joins our team brings and will encourage you to share this experience and knowledge with our team. Once you’ve had a chance to settle in, we’ll work with you to identify objectives to develop both your clinical and your leadership skills.

In the EAU we work as a team and we train as a team, encouraging multi-professional education where team and human factors are a key part of our training.
