This is a great team and we always find the time to support each other.

With medical nursing  you’ll have the opportunity to work in some of the most diverse, busiest and energetic areas of the hospital. We offer both general and specialist services and treat over 1,000 inpatients a month across an average of 350 beds.  We’re committed to delivering the highest standard of patient care whilst developing and nurturing our greatest resource – our staff.

The range of the services we offer means you’re sure to find something to interest you. We have wards and services in  the following clinical areas:

  • Acute Medicine
  • Acute Medicine for the Elderly (including a Frailty Assessment Unit)
  • Cardiology
  • Gastroenterology/Endoscopy
  • Hepatology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Medicine for the Elderly
  • Nephrology/Dialysis
  • Respiratory Medicine
  • Stroke

In addition, there are short stay units, providing an excellent nursing experience if you have an investigative mind and enjoy variety and a fast pace:

  • the planned short stay unit (PSSU) offers investigations and procedures ranging from biopsies to transplant assessments and including an infusion bay for cytotoxic and biologic treatments
  • the medical short stay unit (MSEU) treats acutely ill patients, with an expected quick turnaround – the ideal length of stay here is no longer than three days

  • an Ambulatory Care Unit  offering same and next day assessment of medical conditions

Across the service, we’ve gained local and national recognition, including awards for practice initiatives.

Wherever you work, we’ll support you from the moment you join our team. Our induction programme is tailored for each, individual new staff member and you’ll have a mentor within the team to help you settle in. There are numerous opportunities for professional development and we encourage secondments to other areas within the division, giving you the opportunity to broaden your skills and experience.
